A Great, Easy Margarita

Cinco de Mayo is fast approaching. And that means two things: Corona and bad margaritas (see how I didn't have to preface "Corona" with "bad" because it comes that way). Well, I can't save you from Corona, but I CAN save you from bad margaritas. Read and learn:

1. Blanco tequila; doesn't have to be particularly high end; in fact, high-end is a waste; I use Camarena, which costs less than Jose Cuervo but is MUCH better.

2: Use Mr. and Mrs. T OR Jose Cuervo mix; both are relatively low calorie; this mix is a pale green color; if your margarita is any color other than pale green, you've done it wrong; purists suggest using simple syrup, but that's a total pain, and I'm after great taste AND convenience.

3. I replace the traditional Triple Sec or Cointreau with Limoncello; I started doing this to get rid of Limoncello that I couldn't otherwise ditch, but found out that I like it; not too much, though--much less than the amount of Triple Sec or Cointreau you'd use (see below for amounts).

4. I add a fair bit of ReaLime juice that you get in those tallish green containers at the grocery store; like the mix, much easier than squeezing a bunch of limes.

Keep the ingredients cold (freezer for the alcohol, fridge for the mixers) and serve neat; garnish with a slice of lime.

Proportions:
  • ~1/3 tequila
  • A splash of limoncello
  • 1/2 mix
  • 1/6 RealLime
You're welcome.
