Okay, so the prior picture is in fact Long Island ... just not during
this ride. (Thanks for the pic, Sean!) Turns out, a permit is required
to get past the gatehouse pictured at right (point A on the map below--point B
is Castle Island, site of two prior pics, point C is the JFK Library, and my route is in yellow).
When I got home, I did some web searching to learn that Moon Island and Long Island are part of the
Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. I emailed them to ask how to get a permit. Their reply?
"I am not too sure where one can get that permit. I would try the City of Boston City Hall."

I ended up calling the Department of Conservation and Recreation in Hingham at 781-740-1605. Their automated message directed me to call 781-925-1032 or email cheryl dot desantis at massmail dot state dot ma dot us. Thus far, I've tried the latter, will post an update here when I learn more. |
