Cat 3s at the top of the stairs By far my best result of the season thus far. Oh, not because of my performance on the course, which was only middling for me this year: 92nd out of 115 starters. That's better than Night Weasels but worse than Lancaster and Gloucester. Fun course, muddy but not overly slippery. Lap 1 video below. No, this was my best result of the season for post-race reasons. First, WD40 was running a bike wash and lube station. During the lube, the mechanic fine-tuned my rear derailleur and got the front shifter working more smoothly. It had been taking a lot of force to get into the big ring, so much so that I hadn't been using it (not that I really need it for 'cross). He told me that the front shifter still wasn't right, and that I might swing by the Shimano tent to have them take a closer look. The mechanic at Shimano tightened up my cassette, overhauled the front shifter/cable setup, and trued the rear wheel. He said that it would be like riding an entirely new bike (I bought it used at the end of last year's 'cross season), and he was right. Not bad for the $44.20 registration fee: a clean bike with a tuned and lubed drive train--the race was just the bonus. I wouldn't have gotten out of Landry's for that low an amount (or without the obligatory new chain)! The numbers
