Youth Soccer Philosophy

  Overall philosophy (communication to parents)

  • Our overall objective is to have fun while learning to be better soccer players
  • Coaches and parents subscribe to the BAYS Zero Tolerance policy regarding referees
  • Good soccer is a combination of skills, stamina, and smarts
    1. When smart soccer players have the ball, they look for teammates in good positions to receive the ball
    2. When smart players don't have the ball, on offense they put themselves in good positions ready to receive the ball
    3. When smart players don't have the ball, on defense they put themselves in good positions to win back the ball
  • That's all there is to it; you see, soccer isn't all that hard!
  • We work hard to win; we learn from our losses and put them behind us
  • We strive for equal playing time; playing time may be reduced to address discipline issues
  • All players will get a chance to play all positions
  • At practices, we like to minimize standing around. If each kid has a soccer ball, we can encourage juggling or passing back and forth whenever there is any idle time. (The Dutch say, "Always with the ball!")

Reminders (communication to players before practices and games)

  • Our overall objective is to have fun while learning to be better soccer players.
  • Along the way, we will always have an encouraging word for our teammates and opponents (and coaches!), whether they make a mistake or a great play.
