Candidate for School Committee
Jeff Dieffenbach
My Position on the Wayland High School Project

The work of the High School Building Study Committee (HSBC) and others articulates a clear case for state-reimbursed improvements to Wayland High School. These improvements fall into three general types:

1) Improvement of physical plant to address issues of code compliance, environmental impact, and deterioration
2) Provision of classroom space to meet future enrollments
3) Modernization of layout to accommodate the latest thinking in education

Succinctly, the case for improvements to the high school is as follows.
  • The condition of the current space is unsatisfactory
  • The size of the current space is insufficient
  • The prospect of state reimbursement is imminent
  • Once reimbursement is approved, Wayland should move ahead on the project with a keen eye on its financial impact
  • The current economic climate will result in relatively low construction costs
The High School Building Committee Web site contains detailed information that elaborate on the project and its need.

I ask for your vote on Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Thank you.
